How to read this list
- Purpose
- A research reference for marine/reef aquarium policy, import screening, invasive-species risk, and international trade controls.
- Scope
- Verified official-source examples from CITES and selected jurisdictions (Global/CITES, European Union, United States federal and Florida, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada). This is not yet an exhaustive worldwide list.
- Important distinction
- “CITES controlled” does NOT mean globally banned. “Import prohibited” means the named jurisdiction prohibits import under the cited rule. “Positive list” means species not on the permitted list are generally not eligible for routine import.
- Source standard
- Government, treaty, or official regulator sources only in this version.
- Update approach
- Additional countries and species are appended as verified sources are supplied or researched.
